Stopping Acne for Good

Ending acne for good is sometimes as hard as ending a bad relationship. Neither is ever an easy process. Speaking specifically of acne it is a hard problem to overcome.

Here are some practical tips for fighting against this problem:

  • Realize that not all skin care products are made for the same skin type. Some of them are meant only for dry skin while others are meant for oilier skin. You can find some products made for combination or normal skin too.
  • If you are using an exfoliate on your skin try not to scrub too hard. This could cause the natural protective layer of your skin to be stripped off. This is what causes acne to return so be careful.
  • Wash your face twice a day. Ideally, you should wash it in the morning when you wake up and in the evening before you go to bed.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet. Try to stay away from too many oily or fatty foods. Try to cook your food without frying it in saturated animal fats, shortening, or partially hydrogenated oil. (For instance, stay away from too much French fries and fried chicken as well as potato chips.)
  • Try not to indulge in too much candy and chocolate. This is also bad for the skin and causes the pores to clog.
  • Make sure you use a cleansing product or cream with ingredients that you can trust. Usually a combination of natural moisturizing and cleansing substances are best.
  • Realize that sometimes in the cases of more severe acne attacks and/or if you have whiteheads or blackheads, more intensified treatment is needed. You may even need a prescription remedy or perhaps some type of cosmetic face treatment.
  • If you want to treat body acne you might need a different type of treatment than you use to treat face acne. That is because the body is usually a bit of a different skin tone and texture than the face.

Self Care Tips

Wash your face with lukewarm water using a mild soap or cleanser appropriate for your skin type. Then, rinse with cool water-not too cold but cold enough to seal your pores after they have been cleaned out.

It is not recommended that you use body or hand soap on your face. It is also not recommended that you use most types of bar soaps on your face unless they are made specifically for that purpose. The reverse is true as well for the body.
